I used to hear myself say, “I’m just a mom.” Now I realize I was never “just a mom”. I am a running, triathleting, writing, mom of three kids. I am the mom who runs with a jog stroller with my two year on board and two weimeraners running along side while trying to compose my latest personal essay in my head. I am the mom who has to maintain my fitness because fitness is one specialty of which I write. I am also the mom who takes fantastic fieldtrips in the Maryland/Virginia/DC area because that is another area of interest for me and my readers. Sometimes I write with a child in my arms. Other times I write in the front seat of my car after a trail run or as I wait beside a soccer pitch for my older children. So I am not just a mom. I am many things for many people which makes for a fun and sometimes too exciting life.
I am a regular contributor to www.Irongirl.com and The Streak – an Annapolis Strider’s publication. I have also been published in the eNewsletters of FitPregnancy.com and RunWashington.com. This month my essay, New Discoveries, appears in the Washington Running Report and I am Not Afraid will appear in Trail Runner Magazine’s Inside Dirt eNewsletter. In the coming months, keep an eye out for additional articles in Washington Running Report, The Streak, Irongirl, and The Florida Runner and Triathlete.
You are an inspiration. You are so like me, and it is now clearer to me that what I do is what I should be doing – fitness, inspiration to others, writing and sometimes “just being a mom” too.
I live in Africa, you live in America. We live different lives on different continents and on different sides of the world, but we are so alike in many other ways.
